would you look at that little cutie? joey is getting promoted this weekend from first lieutenant to captain. he's been in the army national guard since he was a 19 year old freshman in college, and after two deployments he's sort of built himself up a family unit within the guard that i don't think he'd ever really be able to tear himself away from. he doesn't talk much about his commitment to the guard, and if you saw him on the street you'd never guess. but he looks forward to guard drill weekend for weeks before, and his guard buddies hold a very obvious and real place in his heart. this promotion is a big deal in guard world, and although he would never say it out loud i think he's pretty proud of the ranks he's worked his way though over the years. congratulations little babe, i couldn't be more proud of you.
this is us at the 2012 guard christmas party for joey's unit. every year we get to dress up fancy and sashay around as if we're south dakota royalty. and maybe we are ;)
