7 months

last night we tempted fate and met some family for dinner about a half hour before h's bedtime. we expected melt downs to be the highlight of our dining adventure, but he surprised us all by being his charming self all the way through - playing with his toys and eating his apple sauce like a true gentleman. once we were safely out of earshot from our dining company, he let us have it by serenading us with screamy tales of his unfortunate life all the way home. the second i removed him from the back seat, his wails ceased and he smiled up at me - my prize for taking him away from his least favorite perch in the world.

these days he spends most of his waking minutes jumping, his little kneecaps are always moving - lock, spring, lock, spring - as he hops. it's most inconvenient when he's mid-feed and his legs start bouncing, first slowly, and then gradually he picks up speed as his enthusiasm grows. he thinks it's hilarious, and therefore super distracting, which makes for a very long nursing session. we usually end up stopping only because he's jumped so hard and he's gotten himself so excited that he's gone from drinking to biting. i'm sure you can imagine the end result feels terribly unpleasant on my end.

as long as he's up high, this kid is all smiles.

last week, i took huck to the pool a couple of times. he's still not totally sure it's worth the fuss, but he's not afraid of being in the water at all. by the time we're ready to leave, his face is wet from splashing and his hands and feet are flapping wildly.

no more crazy hair wings. huck had his first haircut (courtesy of mom's barber shop) on his 7 month birthday!

this month, mother is going to focus hard on teaching henry about the powers of sleep. he kept us up until 11:30 last night and spent the rest of the night in our bed, rolling into joey and smacking me in the face. probably our treat for keeping him up 15 minutes past bedtime. this morning he was up at 5 and again at 5:30 for a few drinks before he nodded back off. at 6:45 we were up for the day after he greeted me with a pop to the face and his biggest grin. suggestions for desperate parents in need of sleep are welcomed and rewarded.

and, a flashback to...
